Therapy and Behavioral Health

I Ola Lāhui provides psychological services to support individuals and families. Our team of psychologists help people with anxiety, depression, trauma, parenting, couples, and cultural concerns. We also help with lifestyle changes such as weight management, smoking cessation, insomnia, and stress.

In addition, we provide culturally-minded and evidence-based interventions for chronic disease management such as diabetes, chronic kidney disease, epilepsy and hypertension. We work collaboratively with our patients to set personal, meaningful, and achievable health goals and reduce health-compromising behaviors.

Our team of psychologists work with people all ages: children, teens, adults, and older adults. We offer care both in-person and online to fit your needs.

Please contact us about setting up an appointment in-person or online!

Healthy Aging

Nationally and in Hawai’i, adults aged 65 years and older are the fastest growing part of the population (Federal Interagency Forum on Aging-Related Statistics, 2010). Hawai’i was ranked in the top 10 states with the highest proportion of adults aged 75 years or more in 2010, and had the third highest increase in the proportion of adults aged 85 years or more between 2000 and 2010 (U.S. Census, 2010). US Census data from 2014 reported that Hawai’i is ranked #1 out of all 50 states with the highest percentage of households with three or more generations living there (8.0% compared to 3.8% nationally).

While the myth that depression is an inevitable part of growing older is certainly untrue, significant numbers of older adults suffer silently from depression and anxiety disorders. Combining this with a tendency for medical providers to screen for mental health problems less often with older adults and the stigma against talking about emotional issues results in very few older adults getting life-changing mental health services they need. This then affects families and communities by contributing to poorer physical health, social isolation, and higher medical costs.

Parenting

When life gets busy and chaotic, we often have less time and energy to spend with our children.  Tantrums and disruptive behaviors are quick and surefire ways for your kids to get your attention.  Spending just five minutes of one-on-one time is shown to reduce tantrums and other unwanted behaviors because your kids feel like they are getting the attention they need.

Make an appointment with one of our providers to learn how to maximize the time you have, learn new skills and techniques, and get the support you need..
